I'm reading EntreLeadership by Dave Ramsey. It's amazing. It's so insightful and very funny. He makes many astute observations about business. This was one of the best:
Just because your mom likes your blog doesn't make you a writer.
I'm paraphrasing. You can be a writer without experience. However, don't allow the fact that your mom and your best friend say your work is awesome make you believe you're better than you are. If you want to be a professional writer, then you need to write professional pieces and receive professional feedback. Moms and besties don't count.
Be realistic about your abilities and talent. Learn to accept and use constructive criticism.
